Too often our churches think of Church growth as adding people to the membership role without giving them a sense of participation beyong pew sitters and tithers. We need to begin thinking of growth in terms of expansion. They need to grow next to themselves not on top of themselves. We need to grow beyond our borders and plant churches as we move away from our center.
The role of the church so often has the protector of tradition. "The way we've always done it is the blueprint for the way we should do it today" is the clarion call for stategy. This mindset is dangerous and makes us unuseful to kingdom work today. The church should be navigating her way through the culture seeking ways to connect its message to their needs. Our message is useless if it is not heard or not understood.
